A front window of a house in Otara, South Auckland is burnt out after a fire this morning.
The fire has been put out.
Three fire engines and two police cars are at the scene.
A St John Ambulance officer at the scene said one person had minor injuries.
Papatoetoe Fire Service senior officer Steve Jones said a family of about five or six was having Christmas lunch at the back of the house when one of them noticed black smoke billowing from the front.
"They grabbed the garden hose and tried to put out the fire but it had become too large."
The room with burnt out windows was a bedroom.
Firefighters couldn't see any smoke alarms on the ceilings which was "concerning", Jones said.
He was unsure where the fire had started or what had caused it.
Three arrests in the Eastern District were related to reported breaches of the Gangs Act.
