A crane in Auckland has toppled over, seriously injuring one person.
Northern fire communications shift commander Mel Barbara said the crane on Orakei Wharf fell and trapped some people who were able to be freed by colleagues.
He said another person was injured and taken to hospital by ambulance.
A contractor has been installing stairs for boat access on the wharf, on behalf of owner Auckland City Council.
Quayside Marine director Scott Fickling said the injured man was operating the crane when it fell over.
He said the man's injuries are not life-threatening and he is in a stable condition in hospital.
A spokesman from the Department of Labour confirmed officials were attending a "crane incident" at Orakei Wharf.
He said no further details were available.
