Police are currently at the scene of a three-car smash in Ohinewai, Waikato.
Of the five people from the three vehicles involved, one is said to be in a serious condition and is due to be evacuated by helicopter.
Two others have minor injuries and the other two people are uninjured.
Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 1 just north of the Tahuna turnoff at Ohinewai - about 39km north of Hamilton - at around 7.30pm.
Heavy delays are expected in the area and traffic is backed up on both sides. Southbound traffic is being diverted to Te Ohaki Road, in Rangariri.
