An elderly person is in hospital this morning following a house fire in Nelson.
Three people were in the house on St Lawrence St in the city when the fire took hold shortly after 3am, Andrew Norris of the Fire Service northern communications centre said.
The two-storey property was extensively damaged in the blaze, he said.
Three people living in the house all made it out safely, and were checked by ambulance staff at the scene. An elderly person was taken to hospital for observation, Mr Norris said.
Fire investigators would examine the scene this morning, to determine the cause of the fire.
