One person is in custody after a male was brought to a police station north of Christchurch suffering from stab wounds.
The male was brought to the Papanui police station after being stabbed shortly after 9.30pm.
His condition is unknown.
A Southern District communications spokesman said it was believed he has been taken to Christchurch Hospital.
