Masterton-based Giants are through to the final of the Inter-City premier one division two men's softball competition.
They made no race of their semi-final match with Hutt Valley Marist on Saturday, winning by 7-0.
Highlight of a powerful batting performance from Giants was an automatic home run by Terry Waitere, his second of the season.
Giants was equally effective in the field with no errors being registered there and pitcher Blair Thompson taking as many as 12 strikeouts.
Opposing Giants in next Saturday's competition decider at Fraser Park will be Dodgers and previous clashes between these two sides suggest a close match is in prospect.
They have met five times this season with Giants having won three and Dodgers two. And on each occasion there has been no more than three runs between them.
"They (Dodgers) are a good side and we know we're in for a tough game," Giants coach Russell Thompson said.
"It'll probably all come down to who bats the best on the day?????that's where it's likely to be won and lost."
Meanwhile Thompson is optimistic that complaints from Giants over their lop-sided home and away programme in the Hutt Valley and Inter-City competitions are not falling on deaf ears.
Of the 34 matches Giants have played this season only three have been at home and they have warned Hutt Valley officials that their participation may be in doubt if that situation continues.
Thompson said a leading Hutt Valley official would be visiting Masterton next month to discuss Giants' concerns and he was "very hopeful" that something positive would come out of that meeting.
"The general feeling in Hutt Valley is that we are being hard done by so I think there is good reason to be optimistic change will happen," he said.
One giant step for the men
