One person died on the country's roads over the weekend.
The man, 26, died after his car left the road in Karaka Bay, Wellington yesterday morning.
He was the only occupant and died at the scene.
Heavy lifting equipment was needed to recover the car which had gone over a small bank.
It is not known what caused the crash.
His name will be released once next of kin have been advised.
