One dead, two injured in Lower Hutt accident

One man is dead and two others moderately injured after the car they were in slammed into a power pole in Lower Hutt last night.

Sergeant Jason McCarthy said speed appeared to be a major contributing factor in the accident, which occurred on a bend in George St, Stokes Valley, about 10pm.

No other vehicles were involved, Mr McCarthy said.

The name of the dead man has not yet been released.
