One person is dead and three others injured after a head-on crash in the King Country this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 30 near Kopaki, 20km southeast of Te Kuiti, at 1.49pm, Fire Service northern communications shift manager Scott Osmond said.
One of the two cars involved in the crash burst into flames but the fire was out before firefighters arrived at the scene, he said.
A person had been trapped in one of the vehicles but it was not clear whether they were the deceased or one of the injured.
One person was seriously injured and two others had moderate injuries.
A helicopter could not reach the scene due to poor weather but an ambulance with a doctor on board was on its way to the crash site shortly before 3pm, Mr Osmond said.
