KEY POINTS:
One person has died and at least three were injured in a two-car crash in Waikato this morning.
The crash happened about 10.15am on Pirongia Rd between Te Awamutu and Pirongia, and it was reported at least two people were trapped.
Inspector Barry Smalley of the police northern communications centre said it was later confirmed one person died at the scene.
A Fire Service spokesman said it appeared at least three other people were injured in the crash, which was believed to have been between a car and a four wheel drive.
Pirongia Rd was closed at the crash site and diversions were in place at Pirongia and Paterangi roads.
