A person has died in a crash near Edendale, in Southland, tonight, police say.
Another person in the car was seriously injured and has been taken by ambulance to hospital.
The crash occurred just before 9pm near the intersection of Homestead and Hilda roads, about 37 kilometres northeast of Invercargill.
No other vehicle appeared to be involved. The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
