One person is dead and another is being airlifted to Christchurch hospital with serious injuries after a car collided with a power pole in Rakaia, Canterbury, early this afternoon.
The passenger of the car died at the scene and the driver was trapped for a time before being cut free by firefighters
The crash occurred on Line Road, about 50km south of Christchurch at about 1.30pm.
