A person has died in a crash between a car and a truck on State Highway 1 south of Whangarei.
Police said the crash occurred about 12.30pm and caused a diesel spill.
SH1 will be closed at Otaika for several hours so the spill can be cleaned and the scene examined by the Serious Crash Unit.
Diversions are in place and police advise there will be significant delays in the area.
