KEY POINTS:
A person is dead after a two-car crash near Morrinsville at 8.30am today.
A Fire Service spokeswoman said one of the cars caught fire but it was not clear whether the person died from the impact of the crash or the fire.
Emergency services had cordoned off the scene on Kereone Rd, 5km south east of Morrinsville.
