One dead in Waikato crash

One person is dead after a car struck a tree in Waikato this afternoon.

Emergency services were called about 1.45pm to the crash on Kereone Road, about 10km east of Morrinsville, Fire Service northern communications centre shift manager Jaron Phillips said.

The person had already died when firefighters began trying to free them from the car.
