One dead in Tokoroa 'serious incident' - police

Police and fire are responding to an incident in Tokoroa this afternoon.

Police have confirmed one person is dead after a "serious incident" at a property in the South Waikato town of Tokoroa.

Emergency services were called to the Moa Pl property just before 2pm.

Police were trying to establish the circumstances of what they are now describing as a "sudden death".

A scene examination will be carried out.

St John Ambulance went to the property but a spokeswoman said they were not needed.

Firefighters were understood to have been called to a safe point near Moa Pl, a short street at the southern end of town, but have since been stood down.

Police wouldn't comment whether a weapon, including a knife or firearm, was involved.
