One person has died after a car ploughed into a tree in South Taranaki this afternoon.
A St John spokesman confirmed there had been a fatality in the accident on Patiki Rd, Pihama, shortly before 3pm.
"We were called by fire at 14:43 to a car versus a tree."
He said one person was found to be dead and the other, who had minor injuries, refused care.
The Fire Service deferred comment on the incident to the police.
