One dead in Otago crash

One person had died and three are seriously injured after a crash at Arrow Junction near the Crown Range turnoff.

The crash involving two vehicles happened on the Gibbston Highway (State Highway 6) at 2.30pm today.

Police said two people had been trapped in one car, while another person was thrown from a vehicle.

One person critically hurt had since died.

The three others were flown to Dunedin Hospital by the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust helicopter.

Two ambulance and two rescue helicopters attended the scene.

One lane of the highway reopened to traffic about 5pm, but motorists were advised to expect delays.
