KEY POINTS:
One person is dead after a car crashed on State Highway 70 in North Canterbury this afternoon.
Police said the crash happened just after 4pm at Mt Lyford, north of Culverden, and appeared to have involved one vehicle.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said an elderly man and woman were attended to, with one being taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.
Emergency services remained at the crash scene tonight.
They would not say which one of the two was deceased.
