KEY POINTS:
One person is dead after a multiple vehicle accident crash in Blenheim today involving a campervan and a car towing a trailer.
Police say the accident happened about 9am on the corner of Old Renwick Rd and Jackson's Rd.
As well as the person killed, several were injured and fire, ambulance and police were all this morning at the scene.
Two helicopters were dispatched to carry the accident victims to hospitals.
Police expected to be able to release further information later today.
The accident is the first fatality reported on New Zealand roads since the official Easter holiday period began but follows a Waikato crash about 1.30pm yesterday, also involving a campervan, when two people died and another two were taken to hospital.
That crash happened on State Highway 26 between Paeroa and Te Aroha.
