KEY POINTS:
A 43-year-old man died in an Auckland house fire overnight.
The victim's body is expected to be removed from the house later today.
Police and fire safety officers remain at the scene and are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
Firefighters were called to the fire in a villa in New Bond Street in suburban Kingsland just after 2am.
A relative said the victim had been at a family celebration last night.
Deputy chief fire safety officer Jonathon Shelley said it was believed the victim was the only person in the house.
"Police have control of the scene," he said.
"There's nothing overtly suspicious about it at this stage."
Mr Shelley said the front section of the villa, which was under renovation, was badly damaged in the blaze.
He said the Fire Service received multiple calls about the incident, the first was from a cellphone about 2.20am, and they would try to establish who that was.
Further details were expected later this afternoon.
