One dead after Whangamata house fire

A person was found dead by fire officers after a house fire in Whangamata today.

Fire Communications shift manager Colin Underdown said that when firefighters arrived at the scene there was no evidence outside of a fire. However, when they went inside, they found the body and signs of a blaze.

Local firefighters were called to the house on The Drive at 11.32am today, Mr Underdown said.
