One dead after West Coast crash

One person is dead after a car and truck collided in the West Coast of the South Island this afternoon.

The crash happened about 1pm on State Highway 65 near Maruia, 66km southwest of Murchison, a police spokeswoman said.

One person died at the scene and another was flown to Christchurch hospital with non-life threatening injuries, she said.

Emergency services were still at the scene.
