At least one person is dead following a vehicle fire near Palmerston North this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the burning van on Pohangina Valley East Rd, Ashhurst at about 4.30pm, said Fire Service central communications manager Chris Dalton.
"There has been a fatality.''
Police are investigating.
Few details were available about the incident, however Mr Dalton said it appeared the van was well-involved in fire by the time emergency staff arrived.
