KEY POINTS:
One person has died following a collision between a truck and a car in Bay of Plenty.
The crash occurred about 11.20am on State Highway 2 about 2km north of Te Puke, Inspector Matt Sillars of the police northern communications centre said.
The road has been closed and traffic diverted down Te Puke Quarry Rd and Welcome Bay Rd. The diversion is unsuited to heavy vehicles and people travelling in these have been asked to use State Highway 33 and 36 via Rotorua.
An ambulance spokesman confirmed one person had died at the scene. Four others were taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries.
