A person is dead after a crash south of Whangarei.
Four vehicles were involved in the crash which happened on State Highway 1 north of Ruakaka about 4.40pm.
A Fire Service spokesman said one person had died, and they were working to free one person who was trapped.
In a statement police said three other people are seriously injured. Two people have been taken to Whangarei Hospital.
The crash involved three cars and a light truck.
The road has since reopened, and the serious crash unit is investigating.
