One person died and another was taken to hospital with moderate injuries after a quad bike accident at Kuratau near Taupo overnight.
Emergency services were called to a bush reserve near State Highway 41 at about 1am.
One person died at the scene, after the quad bike rolled down a bank and into a stream.
A 28-year-old woman was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital by the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter.
A third person, a man, was not injured, the chopper trust said.
