One dead after crash near Tirau

Police said the incident was between State Highway Five and Webster Rd.

A person has been killed in a collision between a van and a motorbike.

Emergency services, which were called out at about 8.25pm, were at the scene, on State Highway 1, south of Tirau.

Fire Services said one person had died at the scene. He was the driver of the motorbike, who lived locally.

Police said the incident was between State Highway 5 and Webster Rd in Putaruru.

A local said the stretch of road curved gently and was not usually a problem spot.

Traffic diversions are now in place.
