KEY POINTS:
One person is dead after a car rolled on the Desert Road, 15km north of Waiouru, this afternoon.
"It appears a southbound vehicle rolled at approximately 1pm, killing one of the four occupants, and seriously injuring at least one other," said Inspector Paul Jermy, of police central communications.
There was a partial road closure in place in the southbound lane, and police said motorists should expect delays.
A rescue helicopter was being sent to the scene to transport the injured person to hospital.
Mr Jermy said details of the deceased or the cause of the crash were not yet known.
