A driver has died after their car plummeted off a bridge in the Coromandel before 10pm last night.
Police said emergency services rushed to the scene of the fatal crash on Purangi Rd, Whenuakite, in the Thames-Coromandel district about 9.46pm.
A car was seen driving off a one-way bridge on Purangi Rd.
It was completely submerged, police said.
The vehicle was partially towed from the water with the help of a diver and it was established the driver was still in the car.
