One dead after car plunges down bank in Akaroa

A person is dead after their car fell 10 metres down a bank in a crash near Akaroa in Canterbury this afternoon.

Emergency services were called shortly after 1pm, the caller saying a vehicle had left the road and crashed down a bank, police said.

The person was found dead inside the vehicle. Police had no details about the person at this stage.

Onuku Road is currently closed and the Serious Crash Unit will be investigating the cause of the crash.
