One dead after Bay of Plenty crash

At least one person is dead after a car crash in Western Bay of Plenty tonight.

The crash happened on State Highway 29, in the lower Kaimai Ranges, 18km southwest of Tauranga, about 6.20pm.

Inspector Jacqueline Whittaker of northern police communications said the accident happened near Kaimai School and emergency services were still at the scene.

One lane was blocked for the eastbound traffic to Tauranga, but motorists would still be able to travel on the road, she said.

Drivers were asked to be patient and drive carefully.
