One person is confirmed dead and three injured after a truck and car collided at Glenbrook, south-west of Auckland, yesterday afternoon.
Police say the crash happened about 4.40pm near the corner of Glenbrook Rd and Brookside Rd.
Police, fire and ambulance personnel turned out for the accident but details were unavailable.
Kevin Warneford, who lives nearby on Brookside Rd, said the smash scene was tragic.
"It's terrible. It's really bad."
He said the car was "blown straight under" the truck's wheels and was so badly damaged he could not even tell its make.
"All you can see is a mangled, black mess under the wheels of the truck," Mr Warneford said.
It was the first crash he could remember in the spot during the six years he had lived there.
Mr Warneford believes the truck was heading towards the steel mill in Glenbrook but a NZ Steel spokesperson could not confirm whether the truck had any connections to the company.
