Joanne McCrae and Bruce Knowles have joined Deloitte as senior managers in tax. Joanne McCrae specialises in tax planning for medium-to-large-sized corporations and superannuation funds, and was a tax partner at BDO Waikato. Mr Knowles specialises in forestry, construction and international tax, and was manager, forestry and fishing, with the corporate unit of Inland Revenue in Auckland.
* The international management and technology consulting firm, Andersen Consulting, has promoted Ramez Katf to global partner. It is the first time a member of the New Zealand practice has reached that status. Mr Katf joined the firm in Australia and came to New Zealand in 1988.
* David Hosking and Mick Bell have advanced to associate partners. Mr Hosking joined in 1990 and has worked here and overseas, while Mr Bell joined in the Netherlands in 1993 and moved here in 1996.
* Asnet Technologies Ltd has named Denise Hansen as client services manager. She has had 18 years in conferencing technologies, ranging from teaching to customer support and training programmes.
* Kevin Miller is joining Clear Communications in the new position of general manager voice and mobility. His key responsibilities will be Clear's business and residential toll services, and developing its local access and mobility capabilities. Mr Miller was general manager sales and marketing at Transalta New Zealand. He has also held senior roles in banking, IT, telecommunications and business consulting, here and in Canada, with firms such as AT&T, Telecom and NCR.
* Susan Gower and Ainsley O'Connell have become associate directors of Jasmax Architects and Interior Designers. They were both associates of the practice. Susan Gower joined the firm seven years ago after working in London. She has specialist skills and expertise in the financial, corporate and legal sectors. Ainsley O'Connell worked with a partnership and later ran her own practice in London for five years before joining Jasmax in 1993. She has been involved mainly with large-scale new development and refurbishment projects, including the Auckland Town Hall and the Civic Theatre.
* Mark Butson has become a director of William M. Mercer Ltd. He has spent most of his career in marketing and management roles and was with Sedgwick Noble Lowndes when it merged with William M. Mercer last year. Mr Butson holds business diplomas from both Auckland and Massey Universities in marketing and insurance management, and is a member of the Insurance Institute. Greg Austen has been promoted to manager of the Mercer Retirement Trust. He was a senior consultant with the firm and has a background in insurance and superannuation.
* The Australia New Zealand Direct Line has made three management appointments. Grant Bougen has returned to Auckland to become customer services manager. He has spent the last three years in San Francisco as regional sales manager. Linda Vernel, who was customer services manager, is taking responsibility for human resources management and training, and a strategic role in on-going quality assurance initiatives. Jon Ward has become manager operations and logistics, responsible for port operations, equipment and depots.
