Time for another round of Featherston golf talk, firstly a couple of errors in the last report.
Charlie Priestley won the men's intermediate division from Jeff Saunders, and the second error was in the ladies' foursomes, where Diana Donald and Jenny Wilkie won, with second place going to Cath Berry and Maria Berry on countback from Sally Fairbrother and Deb Henderson.
Catching up on Sunday November 7, this was a stableford round, with Norm Ellis on 44 points winning from Bob Schofield (39) in second spot and third Allen Bennett (also 39) on countback.
The ladies' was won by Shirley Poutu and Alistair Forrest scored a two on the ninth hole.
Last Sunday the club held its shootout final, with a great field of players in this knockout final.
Down to the last six players and Charlie Fairbrother said thanks to the others as he bowed out, and then the pressure was on as Pat Melaugh said thanks and good luck to the last four players.
The remaining quartet were all obviously keen to win the big prize and the pressure got to Mike Wren as he fell. Next to go was Alf Sio in a play-off, which left the final pairing of George Criddle and Brent Leader coming down the final fairway, and "the old buzzard" Criddle won with a beautiful chip from just off the green into the hole.
The crowd cheered as he was finally crowned the winner.
This Saturday, Sharon Harper will be heading down to Wainuiomata to represent the club in the champion of champions in the silver division.
This Sunday, the men's champions of each division will be travelling to Shandon, so good luck to Owen Lloyd, Charlie Preistley and Eddie Brown in representing the Featherston club.
Dates to remember
Sunday, November 28, is Murray Halberg Day and Harris Scrimshaw Vets Cup, so all players taking part to bring a prize please.
