An old artillery shell has been found at a Tauranga rubbish dumb, sparking police to set up a 150m exclusion zone while they decide how to dispose of it.
Police were called to the Truman Road transfer station after the shell was found in a bin towards the rear of the facility about 12.15pm, Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell of Tauranga police said.
A 150m exclusion zone has been set up around the site and a bomb disposal squad has been notified.
Mr Purcell said police would remain on-site until a decision had been made about disposing the shell.
