A five-car crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway resulted in a large oil spill and a section of the road being closed.
Police were called to the scene about 2.30pm today where a car had smashed into the back of a van and caused engine oil to leak out, acting Sergeant Gerard Russell said. Three other cars were also damaged, he said.
When the van was moved to the motorway shoulder, oil spilled across all the lanes.
Police used "kitty litter" to absorb the oil and the road had since reopened.
A woman and her teenage son were taken to hospital with minor injuries as a precautionary measure, Mr Russell said.
