Police have named the man who was killed after a car hit a power pole and raised garden bed on the main street of Ohakune this morning.
He was Ezra Fluerty, 19.
The driver of the car Mr Fluerty was in is facing charges, including driving with excess alcohol and possession of cannabis. The man is on bail and will appear at the Ohakune District Court on Friday.
Police have said further charges could follow.
The crash happened at about 3.10am when the car failed to take a bend in Ohakune's main street, crashing into the pole and a raised garden.
Mr Fluerty died at the scene and two other men were taken to Whanganui Hospital with serious to moderate injuries, according to a police statement.
Police serious crash investigators were at the scene this morning.
Police believe speed and alcohol were major factors in the crash.
They are appealing to anyone who saw the car before the crash to call them on 06 385 0100.
