Two police officers are being lauded for "pawsing" a dog attack today.
North Shore Police constables Jamie Forster and Aaron Ferguson intervened after seeing a small paperanian named Prince being attacked by a greyhound about 8.40am.
Both dogs were on leashes and being walked at the time of the attack, at the intersection of Manuka Rd and Pemberton Ave, Bayview, said a police spokesperson.
"Constable Foster got out of the vehicle and immediately prised the perpetrator's jaws from the small dog.
"The people looking after Prince have passed on their gratitude to police. They say the decisive action of Constable Foster saved the life of their paperanian by opening the jaws of the dog with his bare hands.
