KEY POINTS:
A High Court jury last night found a Palmerston North police constable guilty of dangerous driving causing injury to a prisoner.
But the jury found Timothy Edward Hesketh not guilty of reckless disregard causing grievous bodily harm.
The charge related to an incident on November 4, 2007, when Hesketh slammed on the brakes of a police wagon leaving a prisoner in the back badly injured.
The Crown alleged Hesketh's actions were responsible for the fractured dislocation to the spine of 46-year-old Mark Edwards.
It left him with loss of sensation and paralysis of all four limbs, the jury was told.
The jury reached its decision shortly before 9pm, after deliberating for about six hours.
Hesketh was remanded for sentence.
