A Taranaki police officer has been stood down after failing a breath test at the scene of a double fatal accident north of New Plymouth at the weekend.
Central police region chief Superintendent Mark Lammas said the constable was at home when he was called to the crash at Mokau on State Highway 3 on Sunday afternoon.
Another officer thought the constable had been drinking and a roadside breath test was taken.
