A Wellington district police officer has received an apology from bosses after being mistakenly caught up in an inquiry into pornographic emails.
Wellington district commander Superintendent Rob Pope confirmed the apology, made by himself and Deputy Commissioner Lyn Provost, after the supposedly pornographic images the officer had on a computer were found to be work-related.
Mr Pope would not identify the officer or the station the officer was based at.
However, it is understood Ms Provost visited the Lower Hutt station to apologise to at least one officer based there.
The officer, one of eight at the station caught up in the inquiry, was believed to have sent a graphic image of a victim to another officer as part of an investigation.
