A Whangarei police officer was hospitalised overnight after a rock was thrown at him while he was arresting people at a party.
The sergeant was assisting in the arrest of two men who were fighting outside a party in Whangarei when another person threw a rock, Whangarei area commander, Inspector Paul Dimery said.
Sixteen officers were called to the scene after party-goers started throwing rocks and bottles at the arresting officers, he said.
Six people were charged for fighting and obstruction, Mr Dimery said.
The sergeant was treated for concussion and received several stitches to his head.
He had been discharged from hospital, Mr Dimery said.
