A police officer has been found guilty of careless use of a motor vehicle after doing a U-turn in front of a motorcyclist, who died after crashing into him.
Senior Constable Michael Lenihan was found guilty in Hamilton District Court and fined $250, the Waikato Times reported.
The charges were laid after an incident on April 18 when father of two Paul Brown, of Te Kauwhata, was killed after his motorcycle collided with Lenihan's patrol car on Waerenga Rd, near Te Kauwhata.
The court was told Lenihan's radar clocked a ute travelling at 153km/h and as he did a u-turn on the brow of a hill to give chase, Mr Brown's motorbike smashed into the patrol car.
Mr Brown's family did not comment.
