The latest OECD Environmental Performance Review of New Zealand says the country needs to improve water quality and waste management.
It says better protection of surface and ground waters is needed because pollution is affecting rivers, streams and lakes and irrigation is taking a toll.
The report says regulations on water quality will avoid problems.
