KEY POINTS:
Greg O'Connor has been elected for his 5th consecutive term as New Zealand Police Association president.
The decision was announced just minutes ago at the association's 72nd annual conference in Wellington.
Mr O'Connor, who had only moments earlier been informed of the news, told the Herald association delegates from around the country voted unanimously for his next three-year term.
The election was contested by a colleague Mr O'Connor would describe only as a "member of the executive".
"It's a real mandate for the way I think the Police Association is operating within the policing environment."
