The occupants of a two-storey Tauranga home escaped injury when their house burnt to the ground last night.
The Fire Service were investigating the cause of the blaze in Waimapu Pa Road, on the outskirts of Tauranga.
Inspector Gavin MacDonald said the fire occured at 10.30pm.
"Initially they thought there might be people inside, but they've already been accounted for," he said.
He said the fire officers were investigating this morning for anything suspicious.
