Occupants of a car that struck a power pole in Masterton fled the scene in the wake of the crash on Saturday, a fire service spokeswoman said.
Masterton firefighters were called to the crash site in Intermediate St just before 7pm on Saturday and the occupants of the vehicle "had decamped from the car and were gone", according to Belinda Beets, fire communications shift supervisor.
She said the fire crew ensured the safety of the vehicle and advised Powerco and police, she said.
