A replica of the hut of Oamaru's original European settler, Hugh Robison, is being built to mark the 150th anniversary of the first European dwelling in the town.
The hut is being built alongside the Oamaru Creek near the town centre, using the same materials Mr Robison used: raupo, cabbage tree stalks, flax and mud. Mr Robison arrived at Port Chalmers from England in 1850 and bought land at Oamaru two years later.
