Police have named one of the two people who were killed in separate South Island road crashes this morning.
Bruce Richard Wing, 21, of Ashburton was killed at South Elgin, 6km southeast of Ashburton, about 1.40am when he collided with a power pole.
He died at the scene, police said.
About two hours later a 54-year-old Oamaru man was killed after his 4WD, towing a trailer, left the road and collided with a rock-strewn bank.
The accident happened about 3.30am on State Highway 85 at Stoneburn, 23km northwest of Palmerston in Otago.
The man died at the scene.
Police said in both incidents there was only one person in each vehicle.
